Laps For Life 2011 - A Success!
I’d like to thank all the drivers, sponsors and contributors for their support of Laps For Life 2011. Dave Gibson, a Porsche 944 driver, raised the most pledges and was awarded the PRS SE guitar autographed by many Grand-Am drivers. Thanks to Grand-Am and the teams for their support of Laps for Life and Wells for Ghana.
Chris Cobetto, director of NASA Mid-Atlantic, started this festival of speed 10 years ago, and PRS has been involved for 5 years. It’s a great opportunity to meet the public, see great racing and drifting and support a great charity. We started the event, Laps For Life in 2007 as a way to add to our annual golf tournament and auction to benefit Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. The fundraiser takes place in June at Summit Point Raceway, near Charlestown, WV at the NASA Racing event, Hyperfest. This year, we have a new cause. Ken Wood, a local Maryland eastern shore man, has dedicated the last few years bringing clean water to remote villages in the volatile regions of Ghana. Ken, a local well driller, was contacted by a church about a well rig he was selling. Little did he know that would change his life...after donating the rig, he traveled along to Africa with it. Since that first trip, he has gone back 15 times and has grown a team in Africa to keep drilling while he is away. Ken spends 4 months a year there and continues to bring life saving clean water to thousands of people. Ken has run the project out of his own pockets and it is our hope that we can contribute to his worthy cause.
